Bowen Therapy

Shiatsu Therapy

Reiki and Intuitive Energy Healing

Bowen Therapy

Bowen Therapy is a great therapy for people who experience pain and discomfort in the body related to injuries, whiplash and chronic conditions. This simple therapy has had life-changing improvement on client's health conditions in as little as 2-5 sessions. A minimum of 3 sessions is preferred for the highest effectiveness. Sessions range from 30 minutes to 60 minutes depending on progress within the Bowen program.

Bowen Therapy is a neuro-muscular therapy. A Bowen move sends a message between the brain and the spinal cord. During the gentle move over a muscle, the nerve receptors of the muscles communicates and sends a message through the spinal cord to the brain. The brain then tells the body what muscles need to be stretched or contracted (shortened) in order to bring the body back into balance. The muscles are attached to bones, and that is how the skeletal system will shift and become re-aligned.

Bowen therapy creates a balance in the autonomic nervous system that increases relaxation and improves immune system function. The ANS regulates 80% of physiological and emotional functions and governs such things as muscles, digestion, respiration, heart and circulatory function, blood pressure, glands, and immune function. This is why Bowen can be beneficial for internal problems as it is for muscular or skeletal injuries.

Since the Bowen Technique addresses the body as a whole unit rather than just the presenting symptom, it embraces the physical, chemical, emotional and mental aspects of each person receiving a treatment. When it comes to healing, the body will prioritize and balance everything it needs to in order to be healthy.

Before a Bowen Session:
➙ Drink more water than usual for 2 days before your session. Aim for at least 8 cups a day. Your body will be more responsive if it is well hydrated.
➙ Wear comfortable clothing with a stretchy waistband, like yoga attire or active wear.
➙ Refrain from other therapies such as physiotherapy, chiropractic, massage etc 2 days before session. Do not over extend yourself during regular workouts, exercise or yoga.
➙ Download and complete the intake forms from here.
➙ If you are paying with a credit card, you may do so beforehand online on the ‘Payments’ Page of the website. You will be directed to PayPal’s site where you will put in your credit card information and follow instructions from there.

During a Bowen Session:
➙ Turn off cell phone – even ‘vibrate’ can be distracting and heard.
➙ Remove any jewelry, belt, shoes, money, wallets & cell phones.
➙ You will be laying face down or on your back on a massage table, with clothes on for the session.
➙ Your comfort is most important. At any time, feel free to shift your body into a more comfortable position, re-position the pillow under your head, ask for the face rest to be re-adjusted to alleviate any pressure, ask for some sinus-relieving lotion for under your nose if you feel your sinuses are blocked up from laying face down, move the blanket off yourself if you are too hot, ask for the window to be opened for more air flow, if the music doesn’t suit you, a new playlist can be selected… etc.
➙ You will more than likely become very relaxed and possibly even sleepy during the session. The moves of Bowen Therapy trigger your para-sympathetic system to kick in, which is your ‘rest, relax and sleep’ mode. You are normally operating in the sympathetic nervous system, which keeps you alert for any ‘fight or flight’ situations. Bowen Therapy will shift your nervous system from sympathetic to parasympathetic mode.
➙ I will be doing a gentle rolling motion over your muscles, tendons and ligaments around your body, more than likely starting on your back. You might feel a slight tingling, reverberation, temperature changes, twitches or other responses after a move, in the local area or around your body. They are never painful and do not hurt. Some people have felt an immediate release after a specific move. Each experience is different.
➙ After 2-8 of these moves, I will then take my hands off you, and leave the room for 1-2 minutes. This break allows your body & brain to process the information that has been sent via your nervous system. I will return and continue with additional Bowen moves and brakes/'wait periods' throughout the rest of the session.

After a Bowen Session:
➙ Continue to drink more water than usual. It is important to flush your body of any toxins and allow any lactic acid that was in your muscles to be flushed out.
➙ You may feel fatigued and sleepy after the session, and this is okay. Your body is telling you it needs to rest in order to continue to process, repair cells and replenish.
➙ Stay mobile for short periods of time. Walk for 10-15 minutes, but do not over do it. Try not to sit for prolonged periods of time (over an hour). Even getting up to walk to the bathroom or around the house is good. Your body may need to release toxins via the lymphatic system, so walking & being mobile ensures the toxins will move and not be stagnant or stuck in your body.
➙ For 24-48 hours do not do any yoga, stretching, gardening, lifting, extended reaching or over-doing it as your body is still going to be processing and might be moving & shifting your muscles. Doing such activities might interfere with this process. If you have any questions about activities you participate in and whether you should continue with them, please email Lindsay Rose.
➙ Go to bed early and get a good night’s sleep. This is important, as your body will be continuing to process while you sleep (and are back in the parasympathetic nervous system mode)

If you feel sore or pain in the days afterward:
➙ You may feel sore or tender around your body in the days after a session. Do not be alarmed. Some clients report that ‘old injuries or pain’ have re-surfaced. This might feel uncomfortable. This is your body’s way of shifting back into balance so in a way, a good sign.
➙ Please have patience, this will likely pass within a day or two.
➙ Continue to drink a lot of water
➙ Take a warm/hot bath with Epsom salts if you wish.
➙ Do not take any pain killers or medications to try and diminish the pain, as they will interfere with the body’s healing process. (Unless absolutely necessary)
➙ Take it easy and rest as much as you can during this time.
➙ If you are concerned, please email or call Lindsay Rose.

Between Sessions:
➙ Keep track and make notes of what happens to your body after a Bowen session.
➙ Every change or observation is of significance and should be monitored and discussed with Lindsay Rose in the next session. This information helps Lindsay Rose to choose appropriate procedures in the following sessions.
➙ Do no have any other therapies during the course of your Bowen Therapy (for 3 weeks), including massage, chiropractic, physiotherapy, acupuncture etc. Other therapies may interfere with your body’s natural healing and reduce the effectiveness of the Bowen Therapy.

Shiatsu Therapy

Registered Shiatsu Therapy is a great service that relieves tension and soreness throughout the body, knots in back & shoulders, increases circulation, strengthens the immune system, and is used as a preventative measure in maintaining a healthy body.

Shiatsu is also used as a therapeutic approach for injuries and chronic health conditions.

Shiatsu is a traditional form of Japanese healing that stimulates the body’s natural ability to re-balance and relieve itself of tension. Direct pressure using the hands, fingers and arms are applied to specific points along the body to encourage the flow of circulation and energy. Tight muscles are kneaded and stretched in order to alleviate tension and melt away stress.

Before a Shiatsu Session:
➙ Drink more water than usual for 2 days before your session. Aim for at least 8 cups a day. Your body will be more responsive if it is well hydrated.
➙ Wear comfortable clothing like yoga attire or active wear. An open neck shirt (no collar) is preferred. The entire session is done with clothes on and no oils are used.
➙ Download and complete the intake forms from here.
➙ If you are paying with a credit card, you may do so beforehand online on the ‘Payments’ Page. You will be directed to PayPal’s site where you will put in your credit card information and follow instructions from there.

During a Shiatsu Session:
➙ Turn off cell phone – even ‘vibrate’ can be distracting and heard.
➙ Remove any jewelry, belt, shoes, money, wallets & cell phones.
➙ You will be lying clothed on the massage table, both face up and face down throughout the session.
➙ I will start the session off with a deep breathing relaxation exercise for a couple minutes. This will help your body & mind settle in, relax and become comfortable.
➙ If you have to use the washroom during the session, let’s pause for a few minutes so you can go. That way your mind won’t be thinking about it, and you can go back to relaxing.
➙ If at anytime the pressure or technique I am using is uncomfortable or painful, please say something. You will not offend me and I can easily switch techniques or use lighter pressure in the area.
“No Pain, No Gain” Theory is NOT encouraged. If a therapist is going too deep, and the body feels ‘pain’, there is a good chance the muscles will respond by ‘armoring’ and tensing up even more to protect itself from being hurt. This counter-acts everything I am trying to do to soften the muscles, and can be a set-back in your progress. PLEASE speak up and let me know if I am using too much pressure.
➙ As a general rule for pressure: When I am working on an area, it might be tender, but should not be painful. (If you have to clench your muscles, or take in a quick, deep breath, I am applying too much pressure and you need to let me know, or else armoring may occur.)
➙ I do not usually ‘chit chat’ during a session, as my mind is normally tuned into what I am feeling in your body and allows my intuition to guide me to what your body needs. This is your time to de-stress and relax and I encourage that. If you are more comfortable talking, then that is fine too.
➙ You will more than likely get to a state of relaxation and maybe even sleep. If you snore, don’t be embarrassed as it happens quite often and I take it as a compliment that you are so relaxed.

After a Shiatsu Session:
➙ Continue to drink more water than usual. It is important to flush your body of any toxins and allow any lactic acid that was in your muscles to be flushed out. If you do not do this, there is a chance you will be sore the next day.
➙ You may feel fatigued and sleepy after the session, and this is okay. It is your body telling you it needs to rest in order to continue to process in order to repair and replenish.
➙ You may notice that not every knot or area of tension got released during the session. Your body may take a day or so to completely release the tension so have patience.

Between Sessions:
To maintain a healthy body I recommend:
➙ Do light stretching on a daily basis
➙ Be active in a way that suits you: walking, the gym, dancing in your living room...
➙ Deep Breathe. Your body will love the oxygen, your mind will love being stress-free.
➙ Be aware of your posture while working, on the couch, reading, on the computer…
➙ While sleeping, place a pillow between your knees (side-sleeping) or under the knees (back-sleeping). Do not sleep on stomach – it is very hard on your spine.
➙ Schedule another Shiatsu session within 2 months, or ideally every 3-4 weeks if you are not apart of a specific program or package.

If you feel sore or pain in the days afterward:
➙ Drink lots of water to flush out any toxins and built up lactic acid that was in your muscles. This is very important.
➙ Take a warm/hot bath with Epsom salts.
➙ Do not take any pain killers or medications to try and diminish the pain, as they will interfere with the body’s healing process. (Unless absolutely necessary)
➙ Take it easy and rest as much as you can during this time.
➙ Please have patience, this will likely pass within a day or two.
➙ If you are concerned, please email or call Lindsay Rose.

Reiki & Intuitive Energy Healing

Reiki (pronounced Ray-Key) and Intuitive Energy Healing practices are built on the concept that healing comes from within. When your mind and spirit are at peace, your body will be at ease and in balance. It is important to understand that without a healthy mind and energy, it will be a long and slow process for your body to heal. Sometimes physical pain can be an indication that an energetic blockage is present in the body. Advance energy practices can help address pain and discomfort on all levels.

Lindsay Rose is strongly guided by her intuition to assess exactly what your body & mind need for your session. A variety of methods are used based on your personal needs, including reiki, auric sweeping & cleansing, colour therapy, sound therapy, guided meditations and visualizations.

Before a Reiki Session:
➙ Drink more water than usual for 2 days before your session. Aim for at least 8 cups a day. Your energy and body will be more responsive if you are well hydrated.
➙ Wear comfortable clothing like yoga attire or active wear.
➙ Download and complete the intake forms from here.
➙ If you are paying with a credit card, you may do so beforehand online on the ‘Payments’ Page. You will be directed to PayPal’s site where you will put in your credit card information and follow instructions from there.

During a Reiki Session:
➙ Turn off cell phone – even ‘vibrate’ can be distracting and heard.
➙ Remove any jewelry, belt, shoes, money, wallet and cell phone etc…
➙ You will be lying clothed on the massage table, face up throughout the session.
➙ Your comfort is most important. At any time, feel free to shift your body into a more comfortable position, re-position the pillow under your head, move the blanket off yourself if you are too hot, ask for the window to be opened for more air flow, if the music doesn’t suit you, a new playlist can be selected… etc.
➙ If you have to use the washroom during the session, let’s pause for a few minutes so you can go. That way your mind won’t be thinking about it, and you can go back to relaxing and feeling relaxed.
➙ I will start the session off with a deep breathing relaxation exercise for a couple minutes. This will help your body & mind settle in, relax and become comfortable.
➙ I will be placing my hands gently around your body, or not touching your body at all (moving the energy around the outside of your body).
➙ I may use gemstones and crystals which I will place on top of the blanket on your body, to assist in the healing process.
➙ I generally do not talk or ‘chit-chat’ during the session, as I am more in-tuned and guided by intuition if I am focused. If you have any questions or want to share what you are experiencing throughout the session, you are welcome to. I will also be asking you what you experienced at the end of the session if you just want to stay relaxed and quiet.
➙ You may experience a variety of sensations such as temperature changes, tingling, feeling the warmth of my hands even though they might not be touching you directly, seeing different colours or shapes… any experience is possible and do not be alarmed.
➙ You may feel a welling up of emotion, depending on what energy you are ready to let go of. If you do feel tears, I allow you to let go in a privately, unless you would prefer to talk about what you are feeling. I normally continue working with your energy just as I have been, and allow you to release what needs to be released.
➙ After we are finished, I will ask if you want to share any of your experience, and will answer any questions you may have. I will also take a couple minutes to tell you any insights or messages that came up intuitively throughout the session.
➙ My intuition is often right on the mark, or may not resonate with you at all. Please do not hold 100% true what I am saying, and if it doesn’t suit you…. just let it go and not dwell on it. “Take what is of importance to you, and leave the rest behind.”

After a Reiki Session:
➙ You may feel fatigued and sleepy after the session, and this is okay. It is your body & energy telling you it needs to rest to continue to process in order to repair and replenish.
➙ You may be more emotional in the following the days, if your energy is still being released. This might include feeling sad, angry, frustrated, ‘bitchy’, more quiet and introverted etc… Have patience with yourself and kindly ask others in your life for this as well. It should pass in a couple days when your energy is back in balance. If you are overly concerned, you can email or call Lindsay Rose.
➙ Look for small signs of improvement in your life. Are you noticing you are less stressed, or are able to handle situations with ease? Look for moments of feeling happy and positive.
➙ Keep an eye out for new opportunities coming your way. It is very important to celebrate small success and progress in your life: the more you have gratitude and give thanks for, the more will come your way.

➙ You may wish to schedule another a session anywhere between 2-6 weeks, depending on your needs. Some people like to keep the positive momentum going, before more stagnation happens and will have additional sessions when they still feel good. Others may prefer to wait until they feel stuck or negativity again before coming back. If you are not part of a program or package, I still encourage you to take preventative health measures and return for subsequent sessions in the future.

Remember:
➙ In the energy session, we planted the seeds.
➙ Like with our living flowers and trees, we see life bloom in the weeks and months ahead, not the day we planted the seed.
➙ Even though you may not see anything sprouting immediately, it is important to keep watering and nourishing the seeds you have planted. Do this with positive thoughts, self-love and gratitude.
➙ If you keep anticipating and believing that beautiful flowers or trees will grow from the seeds you have planted, then it will! So have faith and patience and your beautiful life will continue to grow bloom!
